The name
The Galena Spiral.
Galena began as a mining town in Idaho’s Wood River Valley in 1879. The summit route was designated the Sawtooth Park Highway in 1914 and U.S. 93 in 1926.
The historic hairpin’s broad turn and inward return echo the G’s geometry, connecting the identity to the area’s transportation history.
